Building the Asset Panel: reusable work without breaking the graph

The Asset Panel began with a simple question: how can a useful piece of a workflow become reusable without flattening the structure, losing its media, or turning the graph into a preset browser?

A perfect workflow shouldn't be limited to a single workspace. Do you remember the last time you created a node tree that was so good you wished you could use it on every project moving forward? This is the whole reasoning behind Oro's Asset Manager. With it, you can create a node set and place it into another scene exactly as it was saved.

It isn't magic, but it feels like it is.

A full asset library, not a simple preset menu

Oro already had useful preset systems for prompts, palettes, color ramps, restore points, skin work, replay, and upscale settings. What it did not have was one coherent way to save a working production fragment and place it somewhere else. A preset can remember parameters. An Asset needed to remember intent.

Why the library became a panel

The Asset Manager became a compact way to reach all of the tools you deem worth reusing. Your favorite prompts, color palettes and node systems are all visually present and searchable within their own categories. It's a shelf that can expand for discovery, allow for dragging items into the workspace and be updated whenever a system has improved enough to save again.

Saving more than a node set

When you save a system, Oro needs to remember more than which nodes were selected. It needs to understand how they were connected, which nodes belonged together, where everything sat and which images were part of the idea.

When you bring that Asset into a new workspace, it appears as the same system you chose to save. The layout, groups and connections arrive together, ready to move as a new independent copy. What took time to perfect becomes something you can use again in seconds.

The idea, the results

The idea was to build a system that understands what is available inside a node and what should appear in the manager at the same time. Tools should be accessible from where the user feels like they need them the most. It's an easy system to understand.

Creating presets and Assets is easy to follow. The result is a gorgeous panel that helps you create and reuse your best ideas whenever you want.
